Not All Doodles Are Created Equal: Why Multigenerational Australian Labradoodles Stand Out

When searching for the perfect doodle puppy, it's easy to get overwhelmed by all the options—Goldendoodles, Bernedoodles, Labradoodles, and more. But not all doodles are created equally, especially regarding shedding, coat consistency, and temperament.
One of the most common misconceptions we hear at Cedar Bend Labradoodles is that all doodles are hypoallergenic and non-shedding. Unfortunately, that's not always true, especially when it comes to F1 or F2 generations.

What Do F1, F2, and Multigenerational Mean?
F1 Doodle: First-generation cross (50% Poodle, 50% Labrador Retriever)
F2 Doodle: Second-generation cross (F1 x F1)
Multigenerational Australian Labradoodle (ALD): A carefully bred line developed over multiple generations, originally created in Australia by crossing Labradors, Poodles, and Cocker Spaniels.

With F1 and F2 doodles, you're still rolling the dice regarding coat type, shedding, and size. Some puppies in a litter may inherit a straight or wavy coat that sheds, while others may have a curlier, more allergy-friendly coat. The same goes for personality and size—there's less predictability in how those traits will develop.
Why Multigenerational Australian Labradoodles (ALDs) Are Different
At Cedar Bend Labradoodles, we specialize in multigenerational Australian Labradoodles, often referred to as ALDs. This breed was originally developed in Australia in the 1980s and was later imported to the U.S.—hence the name Australian Labradoodle. Unlike an "Aussie Doodle" (a completely different breed that's a mix between an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle), ALDs have been purposefully bred for consistency in coat, size, and temperament.

Here’s what sets multigenerational ALDs apart:
Consistent Coat Type: Their coats are reliably soft, low-shedding, and allergy-friendly. You won’t find large differences within a litter.
Predictable Temperament: These dogs are bred to be gentle, intelligent, and eager to please—making them excellent companions, therapy dogs, and family pets.
Standardized Size: Whether you’re looking for a miniature or medium Australian Labradoodle, you can trust that your puppy will grow to an expected size range.
Family-Friendly Nature: Bred to be social, intuitive, and friendly, ALDs are the perfect match for households with children and other pets.
